The ‘Cotton Spinners’ project was started with the aim of finding out more about the people who worked in the Leen valley mills between 1778 and 1828.
There is much about the history of cotton spinning in Papplewick that we do not know. Who were the workers ? Where did they come from ? Where did they live ? What happened to them when the mills were closed in 1828 ?
We have already collected some information and we are continually adding new discoveries. This is relevant to family history research or to those who are interested in the social history of the Industrial Revolution. If you would like to help in the project, find out more about specific people (or families) or find out more about the social history of cotton spinning in Nottinghamshire please contact us.
